The Huntersville Athletic Park includes ball fields, picnic shelters and a bike trail and the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics Center that features an indoor pool for swimming programs and classes, and another for competition. The facility also includes an outdoor family fun pool, diving platform, gymnasium, meeting room for 300 people and child-care services. Blythe Landing, a 26-acre park on the shores of Lake Norman, includes floating piers perfect for launching boats and Dockside Cafe, where you can grab a sandwich and fishing bait in one stop. The park also provides volleyball courts, a playground, and a picnic area.
North Carolina Community Sailing & Rowing, located at Blythe Landing it is a public private partnership with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation. It’s mission is to make sailing and rowing affordable, accessible, and safe for, youth, adults and the disabled through lessons and camps.
Latta Plantation Park, Mecklenburg County’s largest nature preserve has 1,290 acres. In the park is historic Latta Plantation, once a cotton plantation owned by James Latta that hosts guided tours of the Federal-style home dating back to 1800.
Also part of Latta Plantation Park, the Nature Center & Preserve has live animals, an outdoor amphitheater, a discovery hall, bird-feeding stations, butterfly gardens, and garden pond. Latta Plantation Equestrian Center is a facility providing guided horseback rides, pony rides, horse shows, lessons, and tack store.
The Carolina Raptor Center, also in the park is an educational and research facility that rehabilitated birds of prey. Injured birds are brought in, rehabilitated and released once they have fully recovered. Visitors can view and learn about birds in different stages of recovery.
The Energy Explorium at McGuire Nuclear Station teaches children about energy. Here, you can take a virtual tour of the nuclear station, play interactive games, enjoy a picnic and take a walk down a mile-long trail along the shores of Lake Norman NC.
Discovery Place KIDS opened in Huntersville in 2009. It’s an innovative model in children’s museums developed by Discovery Place, Inc. Discovery Place KIDS will offer unique opportunities for interactive learning for children birth through second grade.
